Tranquil streams, swelling to fast moving rapids in winter, fill the Murray River valley, the last of the major valleys not to be flooded for water supply. The bushland flowers for most of the year with eucalyptus in summer, wattles in winter and wildflowers in spring. There is also a wealth of animal life to be seen and heard walking through the forest.
Lane Poole Reserve
Lane Poole Reserve consists of forest uplands, steeply dissected valley slopes, rocky pools and open undulating jarrah forest and woodlands. It was named after C.E. Lane Poole, the State’s first Conservator of Forests.
Nanga Mill
Nanga Mill is the ruined site of a jarrah sawmill that burnt down in the 1961 bushfires where remnants of the log landing platform and the workers’ houses can still be seen.
