Jerramungup derives its name from the Aboriginal name meaning ‘Place of the tall Yate Trees’.
When World War II ended the Commonwealth and State Governments initiated bold, large-scale projects to repatriate thousands of Australian servicemen returning to civilian life. Jerramungup was one of the shires that was established as a war service settlement and was arguably the biggest land development project ever accomplished in the western world in such a short period of time.
Today Jerramungup is a diverse agricultural area supporting the production of sheep, wool, cattle and grains.
